How to Repair Dead Boot on Mi A3 (laurel_sprout) with MIUI V10.3.13.0.PFQMIXM Global (Bootloader Locked)

If you own a Xiaomi Mi A3 (code-named laurel_sprout) and find yourself stuck in a dead boot scenario, don’t worry—there’s a fix that you can try without unlocking your bootloader. Many users have faced the frustrating problem of the Mi A3 failing to power on or boot properly after a system update or due to software corruption. This guide will walk you through the steps to repair the dead boot on Mi A3 running the MIUI Global ROM version 10.3.13.0.PFQMIXM, all while keeping the bootloader locked.

What Is Dead Boot?

Dead boot happens when your device powers on (you may see the LED or vibration) but gets stuck on the boot animation or does not proceed to load the system at all. This can happen due to system file corruption, incomplete updates, or failed flashing attempts.

Why Repair With Bootloader Locked?

Most Xiaomi repair guides require unlocking the bootloader before flashing firmware or recovery images. However, unlocking the bootloader may void your warranty and erase all data. Repairing the dead boot with the bootloader locked means you can fix your device while keeping warranty intact and preserving data.

Requirements Before Starting:

  • A Windows PC with ADB and Fastboot tools installed
  • USB cable to connect your Mi A3
  • The official MIUI V10.3.13.0.PFQMIXM Global ROM for Mi A3 (available for download here: Download Link)
  • Basic knowledge of using command-line tools
  • Patience and care not to interrupt the process

Step 1: Download and Extract the Firmware

  1. Download the official Fastboot ROM for Mi A3 (V10.3.13.0.PFQMIXM) from the provided link.
  2. Extract the ZIP file to a folder on your PC. Remember the location—you will need it in Xiaomi Flash Tool.

Step 2: Install Xiaomi Flash Tool and Drivers

  1. Download and install Xiaomi Flash Tool on your Windows PC.
  2. During installation, the necessary device drivers will also be installed.
  3. If drivers don’t install automatically, you may manually install Xiaomi USB drivers.

Step 3: Boot Your Mi A3 into Fastboot Mode

  • Power off your phone completely.
  • Press and hold Volume Down + Power buttons together until the Fastboot logo appears.

Step 4: Connect Your Phone to the PC

  • Connect the Mi A3 to the PC via USB cable while still in Fastboot mode.
  • Windows should detect the device and associate the drivers.

Step 5: Launch Xiaomi Flash Tool

  • Open the Xiaomi Flash Tool application.
  • Click “Select” and browse to the folder where you extracted the Fastboot ROM.
  • Select the folder containing the firmware files (make sure to select the root folder, not individual files).

Step 6: Select Flashing Options

  • At the bottom of the Xiaomi Flash Tool window, choose the flashing option:

    • “Clean all” (recommended if you want a fresh start and data wipe)
    • “Save user data” (to keep your data, useful for dead boot repairs when bootloader is locked)
    • “Clean all and lock” (resets and locks the bootloader, avoid if your device is already locked)

For dead boot repair without losing data, select “Save user data”.

Step 7: Start Flashing

  • Click the “Flash” button to begin.
  • The tool will start flashing all the necessary partitions to your device.

Step 8: Wait for the Process to Complete

  • Do not disconnect your phone during flashing.
  • The process may take several minutes.
  • You will see a green checkmark and “Success” message once the flashing finishes.

Step 9: Reboot Your Phone

  • Your Mi A3 will automatically reboot after flashing.
  • The first boot might take longer than usual — be patient.
